More Music! "Time After Time"

More Music! "Time After Time"

I think I'll always have a soft spot for "oldies" style music. Don't get me wrong, I'll also always love my pop, indie-alternative, and good ol' rock 'n' roll. But the oldies have a way of transporting me back in time, to an era when ladies were strong but graceful,  and the music was fun but wholesome.

As a kid, I used to ride in the car with my Grandma Andy, listening to WCKM (our local oldies station). I had the "WCKM Weather" jingle memorized, and I would sing along with it every time it came on. (It really wasn't a jingle at all. It was just "WCKM Weather" sung in a sing songy way.) I absolutely loved it.

Without fail, every time I got in Grandma's car, there they were on the radio: Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and more. It was as if, for just a few minutes, my Grandma and I were returned to a simpler time, just the two of us. Now that she is gone, when I miss her I just turn on the oldies and bask in the memories.

I'm guessing that's why I fell in love with today's She & Him, featuring Zooey Deschanel. There is a distinctively "oldies" style there. Technically, I think they're considered "Indie", but you can certainly tell where they draw their inspiration from.

I recently found out that She & Him will be dropping a new record, "Classics", on December 2nd of this year. That's less than a month away! According to Rolling Stone, this album will be composed of "13 covers of classic songs, recorded live and accompanied by a 20-piece orchestra." Arriving just in time for the holidays, I'm certain that this album will be the retro, romantic, soundtrack of my winter.

One of the first singles off of the album came out the other day, and I haven't been able to stop listening to it since then. "Time After Time", originally performed by Frank Sinatra, is a heartfelt and uplifting song, perfect for dancing around the kitchen with the one you love. Complete with an excellent trumpet solo, "Time After Time" is the epitome of romance.

Give it a listen and let me know what you think!
