Our Wedding Cake | Healthy Living Bakery Review

Our Wedding Cake | Healthy Living Bakery Review

Our wedding cake display was just one of the many, many things I adored about our wedding. It was as funky and pretty as it was delicious. Plus, it was one hundred percent vegan! The icing on the cake (I’m so sorry, haha!) was the outstanding customer service we received at the bakery where we bought it. We could not have been happier with our experience.

When the time came to choose a bakery, Healthy Living in Saratoga Springs was at the top of our list. We've loved shopping at Healthy Living Market + Cafe since we first visited the Burlington, VT location quite a few years ago. Since the Saratoga Springs location opened up in 2013, it's been our go-to source for vegan staples and snacks. Their salad bar and hot bar are our favorite in the area - Always fresh and delicious, always with lots of vegan options. My favorite part, though, has always been the generous selection of fresh, vegan baked goods offered at the bakery...Whenever I need a little pick me up, their cupcakes are my go-to indulgence! I love them! The different flavor options are creative and very well executed.

After emailing back and forth for a while with the bakery manager, Marta, our minds were made up. Healthy Living had our business! Marta was kind and extremely helpful. She answered all of our questions, made suggestions, and did it all with an upbeat attitude. She sent us a list of 40 (FORTY!) different vegan flavors to choose from, and we spent a few days trying to make a decision. (We had no idea there would be so many options!) We finally narrowed it down to eight cupcake flavors:

  • Peanut Butter Cup
  • S’mores
  • Lemon
  • Coconut Lime
  • Chai
  • Maple Walnut
  • Strawberry Basil
  • Chocolate Orange Hazelnut

Every single flavor turned out far better than I could have expected. Everyone that we talked to about the cupcakes raved about them and told us how much they loved them. (A lot!) Many folks were in disbelief that they were, in fact, vegan. (What is it that make people think that vegan food can’t be just as delicious as non-vegan food?! Silly people!) That was exactly the kind of feedback we were hoping for.

For our cutting cake, we went with a Chocolate Coconut Coffee flavor...And Oh. My. Word. If we hadn’t been so busy with other wedding-y things, I probably could have eaten the entire cake in one sitting. It was insanely delicious, and moist, and flavorful. And now I want more…(The rest of it is sitting in my freezer...We’re going to thaw it out and (try to) eat it on our one year anniversary. I hope it’s still good! If not, we’ll just have to order another one...Darn! ;)

And don’t even get me started on the cake design...I had seen a few cakes on Pinterest that I loved, but had come to terms with the fact that I probably wouldn’t be able to get a vegan version of them, especially in this area. But alas! Marta to the rescue! I sent her a photo of the cake I wanted, and she assured me that she could make it happen. (YAY!)

The day of the wedding, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had faith that Marta and Healthy Living would do a decent job, but...I had never heard of anyone else getting their wedding cake from them...Was it too big a job? Would the design come out the way I had envisioned?

When Josh and I finally arrived at the reception and saw the cake table, I almost cried - GOOD TEARS! It was exactly what I had hoped for, only better! The cupcakes were arranged perfectly on the display that I had scoured the internet for (Thanks Etsy!), my little cake toppers were expertly placed on top of the cutting cake, and the cake and cupcakes themselves looked mouth-wateringly delicious.

I found out later on that Marta herself had shown up to deliver the cupcakes, recognized that it was too warm in the tent for them to sit out, brought them away to be refrigerated for another couple of hours. She then returned with them and set them up once the tent had cooled down a bit. The fact that she cared enough about her work (and my wedding!) to do this made me very happy. It’s not every day that you experience that kind of customer service.

I was so impressed by our overall experience that when the time came for me to purchase food for my friend Katherine’s bridal shower in July, I went straight back to Marta and ordered 2 dozen cupcakes. (This time, we ordered raspberry lemon, coconut lime, pumpkin chocolate chip, and red velvet.) Once again, everyone raved about them and many folks were shocked to find that they were vegan! (I should mention, they do offer non-vegan cupcakes, but why get those when you can get amazing vegan ones?) The bride-to-be (who is not vegan) loved them so much that she later ordered 2 dozen (vegan) cupcakes for her own wedding! :) Now that I’ve got all of my family and friends as addicted to Healthy Living as I am, I’m happy as a clam.

So, if you’re in need of vegan baked goods in the Saratoga Springs area, look no further than the Healthy Living bakery. You’ll be glad you did! They even have gluten-free options!
