More Music! "Automatic"

More Music! "Automatic"

There's something about country music that never fails to make me feel nostalgic. I'm usually a fan of the anthem style country songs. You know the ones! They're upbeat, they're moody, and they're full of feeling. They're the ones that say, "Hey, I'm not going to take any more of this! I'm making a change!" I find them to be energizing and uplifting.

As much as I like those songs, I think that my favorite ones are the country songs that tell a story, or pose a question. For example, I recently heard the song, "Automatic" by Miranda Lambert. I've always been a bit of a fan of hers, but this song really hit me and made me feel that nostalgia that I mentioned.

Miranda asks, "Hey, whatever happened to waiting your turn; Doing it all by hand?" She then goes on to explain herself, by stating "Cause when everything is handed to you, it's only worth as much as the time put in. It all just seemed so good the way we had it. Back before everything became automatic."

Talk about spot on! This song really resonates with me, and I think that's because it makes me recognize the overload of constant connectivity and electronic attachment that we face in this day and age. I think it takes a stab at the way this constant connectivity promotes and provides instant gratification.

I have found that in order to live a balanced life, I occasionally need to step away from all of my beloved electronic devices and my Wi-Fi connection. I need to get outdoors, and really experience the beautiful simplicity of nature. I need to sit down with my friends and family, look them in the eye, and really listen to what they have to say.

I love my devices just as much as (if not more than) the next person, but when it really comes down to it, what I really need in my life is intimate connections with friends, family, and the outside world. Not a Wi-Fi connection.

This song really struck a sentimental chord in my heart. I hope you find something to love about it too.

P.S. Even if you're not a fan of her music, you might just love Miranda Lambert herself. As an avid animal lover, she has certainly done her fair share of rescuing some lovely creatures. In September of 2013, she live-tweeted about her adventures at an Oklahoma animal shelter. That day, she helped over 40 rescue dogs find their "fur-ever" homes. With that said, she certainly has my vote in any future endeavors. I think she might just be my soul sister!
