My 25th Birthday Extravaganza | Firefly Music Festival: Part 1
Until last week, I was filled with dread every time I thought about turning 25. I told people that I wasn't going to celebrate. My answer when they asked why? "I'm not ready to be 25."
My plan was to avoid the whole situation until it went away. It didn't take long to realize that it was simply unavoidable. But you know what? I ended up celebrating, and I loved it. I rang in my birthday by dancing with 80,000 sweaty people in a stinky field in Delaware. And it was the
Let's rewind to Wednesday, June 18th. Josh and I woke up early, and wished each other a happy anniversary. That evening would mark 8 years since Josh brought me for a ride in the middle of the night and parked his old, rumbly, Mercury Sable on the side of the road.
It had been 8 years since he pulled out his big, blue guitar, and sang me a song that he had written just for me, asking me to be his girlfriend.
It was already a happy day, and it was only 7 o'clock in the morning!
We hopped out of bed, and rushed around the apartment. We had a lot to do! Not only was it our anniversary, but it was also the start of our week long birthday-versary adventure!
We showered, got dressed, and began packing up the car. We shoved our suitcases, tent, sleeping bags, sunshade canopy, camp chairs, 2 coolers, and a bin full of vegan food into our trusty little Kia Soul. Then, we were off! Miss Suzie was safe at her Grandma's house for the week, we had a full tank of gas, and we were ready to go!
Six and a half hours later, we arrived at our destination: The Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Delaware; Our first ever music festival!
The next few days were a whirlwind of sun, rain, lightning storms, crowds, incredible musical performances, delicious vegan food, dancing, and celebrating.
Who We Saw:
- Foo Fighters
- Pretty Lights
- Arctic Monkeys
- Childish Gambino (a.k.a. Donald Glover, from Community)
- and so many more that I can't think of right now.
Every performance that we saw was incredible. The crowds were full of energy, the artists were happy to be there, and the music was a-maaaa-zing. I have never sweat so much in my life, nor have never been so covered in dirt. And I've never been so happy to be both of those things. I can't think of much else better than standing in a crowd of more than 50,000 people, jumping up and down, screaming out the lyrics to "Hey Ya" all at once.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!
Stay tuned for more Firefly related posts! I'm working on a post about all of the yummy vegan food we ate while we were there. It'll be up soon!
