Red, White, and Blueberry Smoothie

Red, White, and Blueberry Smoothie

Summertime: The days are longer, the sun is shining, and fresh fruit is abundant. If you're anything like me, all of this beautiful, warm weather probably makes you crave glasses, mugs, and jars full of cool, fruity drinks.

Well, if that's so, I've certainly got a treat for you!

This weekend found me in the kitchen with a fridge full of plump blueberries, a counter full of crisp apples, a freezer full of ripe, frozen strawberries, and a craving for something refreshing. I also wanted something that didn't require me to go out into the world (Read: I wanted to stay home in my pajamas).

On top of that, I was feeling pretty patriotic due to all of the Independence Day celebrations earlier in the month.

What else could I do but make my seriously delicious Red, White, and Blueberry Smoothies?

The ingredients are simple:

Red: A handful of frozen strawberries.

White: Crisp and juicy apples (peeled, cored, and sliced), almond milk, and soy whip.

Blue: A handful of freshly picked blueberries.

We then toss those ingredients into the blender, add in a splash of almond milk, a sprinkle of wheat germ, and voila! There you have it! A delicious, refreshing, fresh and fruity smoothie to start your day off right.

If you're feeling extra decadent, try it with a squirt (does anyone else think that's a hilarious word?) of soy whip on top.

Most importantly, pause, breathe, and just take a second to enjoy your smoothie. Life is too short to rush through everything at warp speed! You know the old saying: Stop and smell the roses! Or in this case, stop and taste the smoothie!

Try it, and let me know what you think. As always, love from my house to yours!

Red, White, and Blueberry Smoothie

-1 Cup Frozen Strawberries

-1/2 Cup Fresh Blueberries

-1 1/2 Apples; Peeled, Cored, Sliced.

-1/2 Cup Unsweetened, Vanilla Almond Milk

-2 Tablespoons Wheat Germ

-2 Tablespoons Soy Whip (Optional)

1. Place all ingredients in blender.

2. Blend until smooth

3. Transfer to chilled glasses.

4. Add soy whip, garnish with extra fruit of your choice.

5. Enjoy!

*Note: Please remember to rinse all fresh fruits and veggies before eating them. I don't know about you, but I certainly don't want to accidentally chomp down on any tiny critters or stray chemicals.  Also, if you are using fresh blueberries for this recipe, watch out for stray stems!
